PROGRAM: HIV /AIDS Program (Metro Louisville STOP)
POSITION: Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) Outreach Specialist
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
Under direction, works in the community to identify high risk person who inject drugs (PWID). Also, works in and around sites such as recreational areas, parks, and targeted gathering establishments where known high risk activity occurs. Persons from these populations will be contacted and encouraged to participate in Counseling and Testing Events, Condom Distribution, Social Network Recruiting, and PrEP (data collection, education regarding lower risk sex and the prevention of spreading HIV).
High School diploma is required. Training and experience in field preferred. General knowledge of HIV and HIV prevention. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills within contents of relationship building. Capable of working independently within the field and having critical thinking skills. Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion. The ability to maintain and sustain confidential relationships with clients is essential. Following confidential protocol is imperative.
1. Satisfactory criminal records check.
2. Satisfactory sex crimes check.
3. T.B. test.
4. Hepatitis vaccine is optional.
5. Obtain certification in the Fundamentals of HIV pre & post counseling within 90 days of employment.
6. Obtain certification in providing HEP C pre & post counseling within 90 days of employment
7. Obtain Training in the appropriate usage and distribution of Narcan as a method to provide lifesaving efforts to injectable user who have over dosed. This training will provided within 90 days of employment.
